always forgiven
Torn worn down buttoned t-shirts
In colors to match her bruises.
Custom vintage dresses
barely stitched together
to make a wearable facade.
Faded blue baseball caps
to remind him of the years he lost.
This is how he dressed her,
during the long drive down the road
that paralleled her heart growth.
He begs her to take that road again;
the same clothes, without the tears
or responsibility.
He wants it to be simple yet worn
with experience, to make even the most
Lynchian of dreams, tangible workable
illustrations of forgiveness.
Creating future memories
that lead to a light hidden
behind an eclipsed Sun.
As long as he carries his briefcase
filled with red-colored yarn,
needles, glue and a warm hug...
she’ll go with it and let him create his world
of magical mistakes to make right.
he knows she’ll always be waiting
at the end of the road,
wearing the red-colored sweater he gifted her
on her twelfth birthday.
Only now it’s torn, a little bruised
and missing the red yarn
he carries to make her complete.
